In response to North Korea's latest missile launches, South Korea and the United States tested eight missiles on Sunday, according to the Yonhap news agency.

Yonhap news agency quoted the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) on Monday morning as saying the missiles were tested "at various targets".

The JCS said in a statement that "our military strongly condemns the series of ballistic missile provocations by North Korea and solemnly urges them to immediately stop acts that escalate military tensions on the peninsula and raise security concerns."

Seoul officials have warned that Pyongyang's military provocations will be met with "concerned" responses.

Soon after the North launched three ballistic missiles, including an apparent intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), on May 25, the South and the US are said to have conducted a joint missile launch in their first joint move since 2017. 

At the same time, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said that his country would continue to promote its nuclear capability.

The North Korean leader has tested more than 100 missiles in more than 10 years in power, including an intercontinental launch and four nuclear tests, according to the Sputnik news agency.

During his 10-year tenure, his father Kim Jong Il conducted 16 missile launches and two nuclear tests.
