Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was scheduled to begin a two-day visit to Belgrade today.

But the visit was hampered by the fact that Bulgaria, northern Macedonia and Montenegro banned his plane from flying over their airspace.

As Lavrov has assessed, what has happened is unimaginable and deprives a sovereign state of the right to exercise its right.

But what has stood out in his statements, is the mention of the "Open Balkans" initiative, Telegrafi reports.

In this context, he stated that Brussels does not want Lavrov and Serbian officials to discuss "our rapidly developing strategic partnership, as well as international issues", write Serbian media such as Danas and N1.

"Obviously, the leaders of Brussels did not want to confirm Russia's position on Kosovo and BiH, to express support for Belgrade's initiative for the Open Balkans and to discuss interests in improving relations between the countries of the region."

Thus, as interpreted, writes the Serbian media Danas, Lavrov actually admitted whose idea is the Open Balkans.
