A large forest fire broke out in the south of the Greek capital Athens.

APA reports quoting Turkish media that work is underway to extinguish the fire that reached the settlements due to the wind.

The incident began 20 kilometers from Athens, in a wooded area between the cities of Clifa and Voula.

Residents were evacuated as the fire approached the settlements.

About 60 vehicles, 8 planes, 6 helicopters and about 300 foresters are fighting the fire.

According to preliminary reports, no one was killed.

It should be noted that three fires broke out in the region in two weeks.

The flames were reported to be moving towards the city of Panorama.

It should be noted that forest fires in Greece last year damaged about 300,000 hectares.
