Police found the trailer was full of people, some of whom had fainted from shortness of breath.

Upon verification of their identity, it became clear that out of a total of 81 migrants in the group, 70 are from Syria, 10 from Iraq and one from Palestine.

During the interrogation in the police, the migrants said that they had previously moved to Edirne, from where they intended to cross to Europe through the Turkish-Bulgarian border.

In Edirne, they agreed with the driver of the truck for the sum of 1000 dollars per person to take them across the border in Bulgaria, from where they would go to Western Europe.

However, it turned out that the driver, instead of transporting them to Bulgaria, took them to Istanbul and intended to leave them in a wooded area in the suburban area of Esenyurt.

The driver was fined 209,494 Turkish lira and will be tried for illegal human trafficking, Nova TV notes.
