The police has arrested the mastermind Zafar Hayat Hashmi in connection with the violence in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

3 FIRs have been registered by the police in the whole matter.

A case has been registered against 36 named and 1500 unidentified persons.

According to the police, the main accused Zafar Hayat Hashmi had appealed to the people to close the market in Kanpur and jail Bharo movement through a Facebook post.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Anand Prakash Tiwari said that 18 people have been arrested in connection with the incidents and some people have been detained for questioning.

He said, "The situation is peaceful and we are monitoring round the clock." According to sources, at least 12 suspects were detained by police teams last night.

Tiwari said that three FIRs have been registered against more than 500 people in Beconganj police station for rioting and violence.

The first FIR has been registered by the station in-charge (Bekanganj) Nawab Ahmed against around 500 people and has accused them of rioting with deadly weapons.

The FIR names 36 people, including Maulana Mohammad Ali (MMA) Jauhar Fans Association chief Hayat Zafar Hashmi, his associates Yousuf Mansoori and Amir Javed Ansari, in connection with the violence that took place immediately after Friday prayers.

The SHO said Hayat and his supporters had called for the closure of shops on Friday to protest the alleged objectionable remarks against Prophet Muhammad.

The FIR states that the rioters used deadly weapons, hurled petrol bombs and created ruckus on the streets, causing panic in the area.

In the second FIR registered by Sub-Inspector of Police (SI) Asif Raza, the FIR has been registered by naming 20 people apart from 350 unidentified people in connection with the riots.

The SI, in its FIR, alleged that MMA Jauhar Fans Association chief Hayat Zafar Hashmi, Yusuf Mansoori, Amir Javed Ansari and others along with Dada Mian gathered at the crossroads and forced shopkeepers to close their shops in the Yatim-Khana area. towards which anarchy spread.

The third FIR has been lodged by Chandeshwar Hata resident Mukesh, who has alleged that hundreds of Muslims attacked people from other communities with sticks, iron bars and lethal weapons, pelted petrol bombs and stones with the intention of killing them.

The FIR mentions "a mob of thousands of unknown persons" as the accused.
