In connection with the opening of the beach season, another traditional coastal clean-up action was organized on June 4 by IDEA Public Union, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Azerbaijan Youth Foundation, Tamiz Shahar OJSC and the UN Office in Azerbaijan.

IDEA told APA that about 200 people voluntarily joined the action dedicated to June 5 - World Environment Day and the 30th anniversary of the UN-Azerbaijan partnership.

The main purpose of the clean-up action on Shuvalan beach is to promote cleanliness on the coast, to prevent the littering of coastal areas with household waste and to involve all young people in the struggle for the protection of the marine environment.

The clean-up action under the slogan "Keep the beaches clean" is the 17th action on the shores of the Caspian Sea with the participation of young people. They tried their hand at football, volleyball, badminton and other games.

In order to organize the waste collection process more effectively, special equipment was brought to the area and all the waste was handed over to the Balakhani Solid Waste Sorting Plant.

IDEA Public Union together with local and international partners regularly organizes cleaning actions on the shores of the Caspian Sea, Kura and other rivers in order to preserve, increase and protect the aquatic bioresources of Azerbaijan and the region.

At the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, and with the participation of hundreds of volunteers, neglected coastal areas were cleared of waste and landscaped, and free public beaches were established in Shikh, Goradil, Novkhani, Buzovna, Pirshagi and Sahil settlements.
