Answering journalists' questions, Alexander Lukashenko told why it was necessary to create a people's militia and what it will be like, BelTA has learned.

According to Lukashenka, these should be groups of about 50 people in each village council, trained in the possession of basic weapons.

"However, there should be no uncontrolled distribution of weapons, as happened in Ukraine," Lukashenko said.

- All our territories are assigned, organized in the shelves, battalions.

We know the last names, all their details.

And I have prepared weapons for them - for every district, every battalion. "

In case of hostilities, militia units can be transformed into a guerrilla movement, Lukashenko said.

According to him, the People's Militia can be a reserve for territorial defense, which he ordered to create earlier.

Lukashenka also reminded of his decision to arm the staff of the Ministry of Emergencies in order to use them for military purposes along with the army in case of conflict or military actions.

On May 27, Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin told reporters that a people's militia could be set up in Belarus.

According to Hrenin, in the current "difficult military-political situation around Belarus," territorial defense "can have a decisive effect in the armed conflict."

  • Russian troops still remain at the Zebrauka airfield near Gomel, in Asipovichy and the Mozyr district, and notice Russian military equipment in Belarus and on the roads.
