The Karabakh Revival Foundation has provided financial support for the reconstruction of a statue of Uzeyir Hajibayli in Shusha.

This was reported to APA by the Foundation.

It was noted that after the glorious victory of our victorious Army under the leadership of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the restoration and reconstruction of our historical monuments, including statues of prominent personalities, began in the liberated territories. There is also a statue of Uzeyir Hajibeyli, the founder of modern Azerbaijani professional music and national opera.

It was noted that the bronze statue was erected in its former place in Shusha by the order of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation: “The opening ceremony of the statue, which was reconstructed on December 1, 2020, took place on August 29, 2021.

The opening ceremony was attended by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.

All the costs required for the reconstruction of the monument were covered by the financial support of the Karabakh Revival Foundation.

It should be noted that the statue of the composer erected in Shusha on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Uzeyir Hajibayli in 1985 was completely destroyed as a result of Armenian vandalism during the First Karabakh War.

As there is no model of the statue left, the new monument was created on the basis of photos published in the press of that time and kept in the archives.

The new 3.2-meter-high statue was designed by sculptors Aslan Rustamov, Teymur Rustamov and Mahmud Rustamov.

World-famous composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli was born on September 18, 1885 in Agjabedi village of Shusha.

He spent his childhood in Shusha, the so-called "conservatory" of the Caucasus.

Shusha's beautiful nature and rich performing environment had a great impact on the development of his musical talent.

By the order of national leader Heydar Aliyev, the birthday of the great composer has been celebrated as the National Music Day of Azerbaijan since September 18, 1995.
