A Taiwanese training plane crashed on Tuesday, killing the pilot, Reuters reported.

This is the second fatal incident the Air Force suffered in 2022.

The Ministry of Defense said that the AT-3 plane crashed during a training mission from Gangshan Air Base in the southern city of Kaohsiung and the pilot's body has already been found.

The AT-3 is an internally developed advanced simulator that first flew in 1980 and can carry weapons.

President Tsai Ying-wen is "deeply saddened" by the loss and has instructed the Ministry of Defense to investigate the incident, a statement from her office added.

Taiwan has sent fighters against Chinese planes entering its air defense zone

In March, a Mirage 2000 fighter jet crashed into the sea off the island's southeast coast, the second fighter jet lost in three months.

The pilot was saved alive.

Although the Taiwan Air Force is well trained, they have been tense not to try repeatedly to send Chinese military aircraft over the past two years, although the incidents are in no way related to these interception activities.

China, which claims the Democratic island is its own, routinely sends planes to Taiwan's air defense zone, mostly in the area around the Taiwan-controlled Pratas Islands, but sometimes to the airspace between Taiwan and the Philippines.
