Thirty-three people were convicted in Romania in April in cases filed by the National Anti-Corruption Directorate, the Agence France-Presse reported, citing today's announcement by the anti-corruption prosecutor's office, BTA reported.
The announcement said that 17 court rulings were handed down in April in cases of bribery, trading in influence and misuse of European funds against a total of 33 defendants.
"Among the final convicts are three former directors of the Bucharest National Opera, two doctors and five police officers, including an officer and a mayor," the anti-corruption prosecutor's office said.
The sentences imposed range from six years in prison to a court fine of 20,000 lei (BGN 7,911).
