Political scientist Ognen Vangelov, who is a member of the Joint Commission on Historical and Educational Issues between Macedonia and Bulgaria, said in an interview that the commission's work has stalled for a long time.

The stalemate, he explains, comes after Bulgaria's decision to veto the start of Macedonia's negotiations with the EU, and this, he says, is directly reflected in the work of the Commission.

We differ in our understanding of what the term "common history" means and we do not agree here and probably will not agree in the future.

"This is the basis of the stalemate in the Commission," Vangelov said.

He estimates that any solution can be reached between the two countries, but in a more relaxed atmosphere.

"When the atmosphere heats up, which is most often heated by the Bulgarian side, exclusively all political statements that contain elements of hatred, provocations, come exclusively from the Bulgarian side, we speak institutionally.

"They say there is hate speech here and that Macedonia should prevent hate speech against Bulgaria," Vangelov said.

The political scientist says that it is not so difficult to find solutions to the problems discussed at the table, but the problem is the politicization of those solutions.

"Radev constantly makes statements that are not only provocative but also insulting and sometimes contain hate speech.

It is an institutionalized language of hatred coming from Bulgaria from top state officials.

The relevant institutions should be responsible for this and we, as members of the Commission, should adhere to what is our duty and is in our competencies ", said Vangelov.
