Within the autumn of 2023, the process for voting of emigrants from outside Albania will be ready, said today the State Election Commissioner, Ilirjan Celibashi.

In his speech during the National High Level Conference on "Voting from abroad, the time is now!", Celibashi invited political parties to be part of the process.

"Political parties are invited to be part of the external voting process, the draft will be consulted with everyone from the beginning, we intend to complete it no later than next autumn," said Celibashi.

Celibashi said an electoral code would have to be adopted only for outside voting.

Also present at the conference, the US Ambassador, Yuri Kim stated that now is the time to take the necessary measures to enable the vote of Albanian immigrants living abroad.

Kim also stressed the elections of April 25, 2021, which he said were good, but not perfect.

"The April 25 election was good but not perfect, we all know that.

The US welcomes opportunities like today to work with Albanian government partners and institutions to address ongoing electoral issues, including the diaspora's right to vote.

A right provided by the Constitution.

"We strongly encourage the serious work of the two parties so that the next elections meet the highest standards", said the diplomat.

Among other things, Kim said the US will continue to strongly support the reforms that are needed to strengthen Albania's institutions, such as electoral and justice reforms.

The National Conference was organized by the CEC and the OSCE.

The conference will serve as a discussion platform bringing together representatives of the Assembly, major political parties, state institutions, the diaspora, international partners, as well as experts and civil society actors, to discuss issues related to the creation and implementation of conditions. of measures, to enable voting abroad in the next parliamentary elections, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Code.
