A Russian serviceman has been sentenced to life in prison for war crimes in Ukraine.

APA reports quoting the Guardian that a Kyiv court has sentenced a Russian soldier to life in prison for killing a Ukrainian civilian in connection with war crimes committed by the Russian army during its intervention in Ukraine.

21-year-old sergeant Vadim Shishimarin was found guilty of killing 62-year-old Alexander Shelipov in the first days of the war in Sumy region.

The judge said that although Shishimarin cooperated with the investigation and expressed regret, the court did not accept the claim that the Russian serviceman did not intend to kill Shelipov when he opened fire.
