Amid ongoing public outrage over Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Austrian activists occupied a villa on the shores of a lake believed to belong to a Russian oligarch yesterday, the DPA reported.

Protesters say 40 people are calling for the confiscation of a villa in Unterburgau on Lake Attersee, near Salzburg.

According to police, only 10 people took part in the occupation.

The group later left the villa, which was uninhabited, a police spokesman told the DPA.

The villa does not belong to an oligarch who falls under European Union sanctions, according to the Austrian cadastre and the register of the Ministry of Finance.

According to them, it belongs to a company associated with a member of the family of a Russian oligarch.

The Directorate of State Protection and Intelligence, which establishes property belonging to oligarchs in Austria, said it often found cases of properties with an unclear owner.
