Anthony Albanese to be sworn in as Prime Minister

New Delhi:

After admitting defeat in the election of Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Australia's High Commissioner to India Barry O'Farrell said on Saturday that Anthony Albanese, who is going to become the Prime Minister of Australia, is well-acquainted with India.

In Australia's election, the Labor Party won its first electoral victory since 2007.

Opposition leader Anthony Albanese will be sworn in as prime minister.

The High Commissioner tweeted, "Australia's elected Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is no stranger to India as he visited the country as a traveler in 1991 and led a parliamentary delegation in 2018.

During his 2018 visit, he had committed to further deepen India-Australia economic, strategic ties.

If Albanese travels to Tokyo to attend the upcoming Quad leaders meeting, he is set to hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Quad Summit is on 24 May.

Relations between India and Australia have strengthened over the years.

Last month, the two countries inked a trade agreement to diversify bilateral trade.
