"Iranian state television has revealed the identities of the French citizens detained a few days ago," the news agency reported.

The Israeli-based publication, citing Tehran media, added that authorities in the Islamic Republic had arrested 37-year-old Cecil Kohler and Jacques Paris (69).

"The two Frenchmen have been accused of organizing riots to cause chaos in the country. According to the television, the two held meetings with people critical of the Iranian authorities," the news added.

Dissatisfaction with high prices for fuels and basic necessities has been burning in Iran for several weeks.

"Clashes between protesters and security forces have claimed at least six lives," Israeli media said.

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei, has acknowledged some of the protesters' demands as fair.

At the same time, he urged people not to play the whistle of Iran's enemies.
