Perarivalan's mother meets Tamil Nadu CM

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court ordered the release of AG Perarivalan, who has served more than 30 years in prison for the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

AG Perarivalan's mother met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin in Chennai after the son's release.

Welcoming the Supreme Court verdict, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said the DMK had mentioned in its election manifesto ahead of the 2021 state assembly elections that it would make efforts for the release of the seven convicts.

He said that Perarivalan was released on humanitarian grounds and on human rights, which is welcome.

Stalin said, 'Though there was a delay, it is a historic decision.

Stalin has also tweeted a video of this meeting and wrote that brother Perarivalan, who has returned from jail after serving a sentence of more than 30 years, I met him.

I have wished Perarivalan and Arputhammal to establish a good household life and live happily.

Annamalai said the party "accepts" the Supreme Court's decision.

He said that the Supreme Court has given relief to Perarivalan on the basis of its extraordinary power under Article 142.

"We also believe that the Supreme Court will not allow our unity, security and integrity to be compromised," he said in a tweet.

Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary D Raja said his party welcomes the decision.

Several other leaders, including Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) founder Vaiko and Pattali Makkal Kauchi (PMK) leader S Ramadoss, welcomed Perarivalan's release.

Soon after the apex court's verdict to release Perarivalan, relatives started arriving at his residence here.

Perarivalan fed sweets to his mother Arputhammal during this time.

He hugged his mother and sister and expressed his happiness.

His father, Kuildasan, expressed happiness over the end of his son's 30-year imprisonment.

Activists of pro-Tamil organizations took to the streets and raised slogans in many parts of the state, expressing happiness over the Supreme Court's decision.
