Employees of Stolichen Elektrotransport, EAD Stolichen Avtotransport EAD, Metropolitan EAD and Center for Urban Mobility EAD gathered to protest at the Five Corners crossroads.

Their demands are for a budget update due to the effects of the pandemic and rising fuel and energy prices. 

The protesters carried Bulgarian flags and posters reading "Governments are temporary, transport is eternal", "Without state aid there will be no public transport".

Their colleagues from the transport unions blocked Stochna Gara Square.

They insist on dialogue with the government and an update of the state budget in order to overcome the consequences of the pandemic and the increased prices of fuels and energy. 

Workers in the capital's transport also gathered on Lion's Bridge Square and the Five Corners Crossroads.

The organizers of the protest are the Federation of Transport Workers of Podkrepa and the Union of Transport Trade Unions in Bulgaria.

The protest march will go to the Ministry of Finance, and then - to the building of the Council of Ministers.

Yesterday, after a meeting with the Minister of Transport Nikolay Sabev, the Mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova stated: “Today we had a constructive conversation with Minister Sabev for support for the public transport of Sofia with a specific plan.

The expert talks between the teams of Sofia Municipality and the Ministry of Transport will start next week, and Sofia Municipality will participate in the development of a national transport scheme with synchronization of bus, city transport and BDZ schedules.

Minister Sabev expressed hope that the first results will be ready by the end of June and the commitment he can make to support the updating of the state budget will be clear.
