The fire in Hermits Peak and Calf Canyon has destroyed and burned hundreds of homes and about 300,000 acres of land in recent weeks, making this fire the most devastating in the history of this state.

Sloping mountainous terrain, high temperatures and low humidity are making even more difficult the effort of over 2,000 firefighters, who are trying to put out the fire, foreign media write, Telegrafi reports.

The fire in Hermits Peak started on April 6, when a small fire in Santa Fe National Forest went out of control of firefighters due to some unexpected winds.

The fire in Calf Canyon started about 2 weeks later, where then on April 22 it just approached and joined the fire in Hermits Peak.

Strong winds are making it impossible for firefighting planes to fly over the fire and extinguish it, while steep terrain is slowing down the advance of firefighters on the ground.
