Varanasi:

Survey-videography work of Gyanvapi Masjid complex has started in Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh for the third consecutive day on Monday amid tight security arrangements.

The plaintiff and respondent, including the Advocate Commissioner, have all reached Gyanvapi Masjid.

Officials said that the survey was conducted from 8 am to 12 noon on Sunday and during this time about 65 per cent of the survey work was completed.

Varanasi District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma told 'PTI-Bhasha' on Monday, 'Survey has started in Gyanvapi Masjid premises.'

Varanasi Police Commissioner A Satish Ganesh also informed about the start of the survey work for the third day.

It is noteworthy that the Gyanvapi Mosque is located close to the iconic Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

The local court is hearing a petition by a group of women seeking permission for daily prayers in front of the idols on its outer walls.

On Sunday, District Magistrate Sharma had said that Monday's survey work would start at 8 am and during this time all the parties have been instructed to be present in the mosque premises.

Hindu side's advocate Madan Mohan Yadav had said on Sunday that about 65 percent of the survey work has been completed today and it will continue tomorrow (Monday).

Yadav had said that since advocates are not used to such survey work and it is purely archaeological survey work, it is taking some time.

A Varanasi court on Thursday dismissed a petition seeking removal of Advocate Commissioner (Court Commissioner) Ajay Mishra, appointed for conducting survey-videography work of Gyanvapi-Shringar Gauri complex, on charges of favoritism.

The court had made it clear that videography would be done inside the Gyanvapi mosque as well.

Civil court judge (senior division) Ravi Kumar Diwakar, while rejecting the plea for removal of advocate commissioner Mishra, appointed Vishal Singh as special advocate commissioner and Ajay Pratap Singh as assistant advocate commissioner.

He had also given instructions to submit the report by May 17 after videography of the entire campus.

The district court had said that the locks can be broken if keys are not available to access parts of the premises for the purpose of survey.

The court had also directed the officials to register an FIR against those creating obstacles in the survey work.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had on Friday refused to pass an interim order of status quo on the survey.

However, the top court has agreed to consider listing a petition by the Muslim side against the survey.
