The EU has also failed to agree today on new sanctions against Russia over the war in Ukraine, which include a ban on Russian oil imports.

This was announced after the meeting of European foreign ministers by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, BTA reports.

He clarified that the opinion of Hungary, which does not support the embargo due to its complete dependence on Russian oil imports, remains unchanged.

According to him, the issue will be transferred again to the ambassadors of the EU countries, BTA correspondent Nikolay Zhelyazkov reported.

Neutrality in Europe is becoming increasingly rare in the face of the expected enlargement of NATO

Hungary explains its position not for political but for economic reasons, Borel explained.

Sanctions come at a price, including for those who impose them, he added.

"The EU must gradually, but as soon as possible, end its dependence on imports of Russian gas, coal and oil.

This dependence makes us very vulnerable.

It is necessary to assess which EU country would bear what burden.

This was not discussed today, "the High Representative said.

He insisted that more important than sanctions was how war was perceived around the world and whether the world shared a European vision.

Borrell added that Russia was trying to explain the expected food and economic crisis with sanctions, while at the same time blowing up grain warehouses in Ukraine and stopping shipping in the Black Sea, from where Ukrainian grain could be transported to the world market.
