Authorities say an armed teenager in tactical gear opened fire in a busy supermarket in the predominantly black neighborhood of Buffalo on Saturday, May 14, killing 10 people and injuring three others, usatoday reported.

Officials said the suspect, a white 18-year-old man, had been driving for several hours across New York State to carry out the attack, which he conducted live on social media.

called the gunman

a "white race" who carried out a terrorist attack in New York City's second-largest city without hesitation while people bought groceries.

The suspect is

Peyton Hendran

of Conklin, about 200 miles southeast of Buffalo.

He was detained on the spot and taken into custody after the attack.
