The trial of a Russian soldier for killing an unarmed civilian began on Friday, the first case since the start of Russian aggression on February 24 in Ukraine.

Vadim Shishimarin, 21, is a member of a Russian tank unit and is accused of shooting a 62-year-old Ukrainian man in the head through an open car window in the northeastern village of Chupahivka.

Following the arrest of the soldiers, the Security Service of Ukraine, known as the SBU, released a short video of Shishimarin showing the moment of the murder of a man, reports

"I was ordered to shoot," said the soldier, adding, "I shot at him.

Ai ra.

"We kept walking."

On Friday, many journalists gathered in the small hall of the Solomyansky District Court in Kiev, where Shishiramin appeared in a small glass cage.

He faces life in prison if convicted of war crimes charges in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the office of Ukraine's chief prosecutor, Irina Venediktova, said it was investigating more than 10,000 cases of possible war crimes, including killings and cases of torture.

Otherwise, many of the alleged Russian atrocities were uncovered last month after Moscow forces gave up attempts to bring Kiev under control and withdrew from the capital, leaving behind mass graves and dead bodies on the streets of cities like Bucha.
