Turkish Deputy Interior Minister Muhterem Ince said that in 2021, Turkish migration authorities had deported 16,056 people for reasons of various kinds.

Another 6,393 people were caught with fake IDs and returned.

The Turkish responsible representative announced these data at a press conference at which "A project to increase the capacity of the General Directorate of Security and other law enforcement agencies in detecting fraud with travel documents and risk analysis" was presented.

Every year, about 120 million people enter and exit the 206 Turkish border checkpoints, which are served by 2,750 passport control officers.

"Turkey is fighting very seriously against illegal migration, which is fueled by economic conditions and geographical location.

"Special attention is paid to security issues," he said.

According to him, one of the most common methods used by illegal migrants and refugees to enter the country is the use of false documents - a problem that plays a key role in combating illegal migration through Turkish border crossings.

"The Turkish side is actively cooperating on this issue with the specialized authorities in Bulgaria, as well as with Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Romania, Hungary and Serbia in the European direction, to which we attach great importance;

in the eastern direction, we are cooperating with the police services of Iran and Pakistan, "said Mukhterem Ince.

He pointed out that the projects called "The Road Home through Serbia" and "Hungary-Road of Friendship" are a unique example of cooperation in the international arena and have yielded positive results not only in passenger transport, but also in trucks.

The technological facilities located at the Turkish border crossings, for the modernization and maintenance of which significant funds are allocated, make the fight against illegal migration more successful.
