"Finland's membership in NATO is not directed against anyone."

APA reports that Finnish President Sauli Niinistö stated this in an article titled "NATO membership strengthens Finland's security" published on the government's website.

The President said that ensuring the security of the country is the most important goal of the government, and timely and appropriate steps have been taken in this direction.

He said the government's official confirmation of NATO membership was a timely and logical decision.

"By joining NATO, Finland is maximizing its security.

This is not against anyone.

"As a member of the Alliance, Finland will naturally contribute to the security of society as a whole," he said.

He noted that Russia is and will remain Finland's border neighbor.

In his article, the President also said that his country should continue to resolve and discuss practical issues with Russia, as NATO member Norway does: "Our constructive line is always appreciated."

He added that with NATO membership, relations in the Scandinavian region are getting closer: "Along with prosperity, democracy and human rights, the Scandinavian model will be further recognized by the concept of 'security'."

The Finnish President stressed that this is a historic decision, but with Finland's membership in NATO there will be no change in the country's policy.

"Finland's security will remain the most important goal of our foreign and security policy."
