UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said he is "deeply concerned" that food shortages are spreading around the world due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

APA reports quoting Reuters that Secretary General Guterres said this at a joint press conference with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer and Foreign Minister Alexander Challenberg.

"I must say that I am very concerned about the risks of famine spreading around the world due to the dramatic food security situation we are facing due to the war in Ukraine," said Guterres.

The UN Secretary General also spoke about his visit to Moscow in April to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He noted that this was the right decision: "It was logical to talk to the leader of the Russian Federation.

In the current crisis, it makes sense to talk to any other relevant actors. "

Guterres said the meeting with Putin had yielded concrete results and resulted in the evacuation of besieged civilians in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol.
