Kyiv has tried to disrupt the sale of alcohol in Russia through cyber attacks against the Russian excise system, AFP reported, citing Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, in charge of digital policy in the Ukrainian government.

"There was an attack on the excise system, which allowed to disrupt the sale of alcohol in Russia," Fedorov said in a video conference with participants in a cybersecurity conference in Paris.

"We decided that people need to be sober in order to cope with the propaganda that the Russian government is subjecting them to," Fedorov joked.

He did not go into details about the operation and remained relatively discreet about other cyberattacks by Ukrainians against Russia.

"More than 80 Russian systems have been damaged," he said, citing YouTube's Russian equivalent, RyTube, paralyzed by a cyber attack earlier this week.

"It would be counterproductive to expose these attacks now," he said.
