The war between Russia and Ukraine has created risks for the Northern Transport Corridor, increasing the importance of the alternative Middle Corridor, both in terms of distance and in the context of timing and safety of freight traffic.

APA-Economics reports quoting Anadolu that this was stated by Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoglu.

According to the Minister, the route of the Middle Corridor passes through the regions, which cover up to 30% of all world trade.

"Today, a freight train from China to Europe travels 7,000 km along the Central Corridor in 12 days.

The same train traveled 10 thousand km in 12 days.

It will deliver goods from China to Europe via the Northern Route, passing through Russia.

"If the cargo is transported through the Suez Canal along the Southern Corridor, then customers in Europe will have to wait 45-60 days for delivery to a distance of 20,000 km from Asia," he said.

According to Adil Karaismailoglu, these figures emphasize the profitability of freight traffic on the Middle Corridor.

The Minister also added that from the beginning of this year to the end of April, 1 mln.

More than a ton of cargo was transported.

"We plan to reduce the time of delivery of goods by rail between Turkey and China from 12 to 10 days.

"We will pay attention to Turkey's transit opportunities, which will contribute to the development of trade in the entire region," he said.
