Former Honduran President Juan Orlando Fernandez has been arraigned in the United States.

APA reports that the Brooklyn Federal Court has charged him with drug trafficking.

He is accused of organizing the transfer of 500 tons of cocaine to the United States in 2004-2022.

Fernandez, 53, was president of Honduras from 2014-2022.

He was extradited to the United States in April.

The next hearing is scheduled for September.

If convicted, he faces life in prison.
