Greece is recording record high inflation, according to data from the national statistical service ELSTAT, quoted by the electronic edition of the Greek newspaper Naftemboriki. 

In April, inflation reached 10.2 percent against 8.9 percent in March this year.

This is the highest inflation in 27 years, the publication notes.

The last time double-digit inflation - 10 percent - was registered in February 1995. In January of the same year it was 10.7 percent.

The inflation rate in April 2022 is identical to that of April 1994 - 10.2 percent.   

For one month, the prices of electricity, natural gas and heating oil rose by 88.8 percent, 122.6 percent and 65.1 percent on an annual basis, the publication said.

In food products, the biggest increase is in cooking oils - by 22 percent.

The price of meat jumped by 14.1 percent, vegetables - by 13.8 percent, dairy products and eggs - by 11.7 percent and bread and pasta - by 10 percent. 

Shipping increased by 17.7 percent and air travel - by 15.8 percent.

According to ELSTAT data, the prices of hotel services are 16 percent higher.
