A two-bedroom apartment in Portugal was sold for three bitcoins or about 110,000 euros at the time of signing, PA Media reported, quoted by BTA.

This is the first real estate transaction in Europe, made entirely in cryptocurrency, without conversion into euros, said the brokerage agency "Idealista".

The sale of the property in the Brega area has become possible thanks to a new regulation of the College of Portuguese Notaries, adopted a month ago, allowing this type of payment.

Under the new regulation, the two sides sign a regular deed of sale, with the buyer exchanging cryptocurrencies for title.

Before the new rules when buying a home, cryptocurrencies had to be converted into euros in order to make a deal.

The new type of payment is accompanied by new anti-money laundering procedures.

If the cryptocurrency transaction exceeds € 200,000, the transaction must be announced to the authorities and a comparison of the value of the cryptocurrencies on the day of the contract must be made.
