May 9, 2022 marks the 77th anniversary of the Victory in World War II, 1941-45.

In this regard, we pay tribute to the memory of all the soldiers, officers and ordinary citizens who showed invaluable services, courage and heroism in winning the war, one of the most terrible wars in human history.

The statement came from the Foreign Ministry.

"This victory was an important contribution of the Azerbaijani people. More than 600,000 Azerbaijani boys and girls took part in the war, more than half of them died and went missing in the war zones. 123 Azerbaijani citizens were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for their bravery during the war. Many of our soldiers and officers have been awarded various orders and medals. The heroic sons of our people have been closely involved in the liberation of many countries from fascism.

Azerbaijan's contribution to the victory with fuel was invaluable.

During the war of 1941-1945, Azerbaijan produced more than 70 percent of the oil, 80 percent of gasoline and 90 percent of engine oil produced in the Soviet Union.

The vast majority of tanks and planes of the Soviet army, which played a decisive role in securing the victory over fascism in World War II, were powered by fuel sent by Baku oil workers.

The people of Azerbaijan have shown unparalleled labor skills in the rear and worked selflessly day and night to meet the needs of the army.

Our people sent more than 7 tons of donor blood to the front, and were distinguished by their active position in supplying the fighting army with food and warm clothing.

Azerbaijan has mobilized all its resources for the victory over fascism.

The people of Azerbaijan celebrate the victory in the Second World War of 1941-45 with the feeling of joy of the great Victory achieved as a result of the 44-day Patriotic War.

Restoring its territorial integrity within its international borders, Azerbaijan has always supported the struggle for international law and justice.

"The memory of all our sons and daughters who died for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, as well as in the war of 1941-45, will live forever in the hearts of the Azerbaijani people," he said.
