The candidacy for NATO enjoys the support of more than three quarters of Finns, according to a poll published today on national television, BTA reported, citing AFP.

A record 76% of Finns support the country's accession to the Alliance.

in March the percentage of Finns supporting NATO accession was 60. Among those polled were supporters of all political forces in Finland,

the survey also showed.

As in Sweden, the Russian invasion of Ukraine led to a sharp change in public opinion, which until then had been strongly divided.

Prior to the conflict in the Eastern European country, supporters of Finland's accession to NATO have remained at 20-30% in recent years.

Finnish President Sauli Ninistö is expected to formally announce his personal position on accession on May 12th.

Experts expect the Finnish candidacy to become official in the coming days.

There is also a majority in parliament,

according to a survey by Finnish media published last week.

121 out of 200 deputies support joining NATO, only 10 of those polled were against.
