Russia's massive Admiral Makarov warship is said to have been hit by Ukrainian missiles, causing it to explode in flames.

According to foreign media, the Telegraph reports, the warship was on fire this morning in what would be a new blow for the instigator Vladimir Putin, suggest a number of unconfirmed reports.

She was reportedly near Snake Island in the Black Sea, where a rescue operation was underway involving many planes and lifeboats.

Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko has said that the ship was hit by Ukrainian missiles.

He added that the ship had been hit by Ukrainian attacks and was "badly damaged", but remained at sea for now.

In his post he wrote: “Yes, yes, you understood everything well!

"The lord of the seas takes revenge on the invaders of Ukraine."

In addition to the Ukrainian politician, a number of unconfirmed reports said the warship was hit by Ukrainian missiles near the Sevastopol naval plant in Crimea, in the Black Sea.

"Admiral Makarov" is noted as one of only three frigates of his active class in the Black Sea.

This new blow comes not long after the sinking of the Russian Black Sea ship, "Moscow".
