The President of Albania, Ilir Meta has reacted today after the serious event that took place in the Kavaja Police Commissariat, where a young man arrested ended his life in a cell.

In a Facebook post, Meta said that this event deeply shakes the trust of citizens in law enforcement agencies.

"Expressing the most sincere condolences to the family of the late Ilvi Meta, I consider very serious and unacceptable the fact that a citizen loses his life within state institutions, such as the Kavaja Police Station," said Meta.

"The loss of a life at a very young age within the Police Commissariat is not only a family tragedy, but deeply shakes the trust of citizens in law enforcement agencies," said the President.

"I call for the clarification as soon as possible of the circumstances of the tragic death of the young Ilvi Meta and the bringing to justice of those responsible for this unjustifiable tragedy!", Meta wrote.

Yesterday afternoon, the young Ilvi Meta died at the Commissariat premises.

He is suspected of committing suicide with the hooded sweatshirt.

Meta was arrested a few hours before the event after the court had sentenced him in absentia to prison on charges of theft.

Meanwhile, today the police announced the arrest of three police officers in connection with this event.
