Two German ministers have said that Germany will make a radical turn in terms of Russian oil and that their government is ready to support a ban on imports from Russia.

Finance Minister Chrstian Lindner and Economy Minister Robert Habeck said the country would be able to cope with oil shortages and rising prices.

Germany has been reluctant to cut off Russian gas supplies, despite similar moves from other European Union countries, as it relied heavily on Russian oil, reports

Speaking in Brussels, Habeck said Germany would support a ban on Russian oil imports to the European Union, even if it takes effect immediately.

"Germany is not against banning oil imports to Russia.

"It's certainly a heavy burden, but we would be willing to do it," he said.

Over the weekend, two European diplomats said that the EU was increasingly demanding a ban on Russian oil imports by the end of 2022.
