Erdogan said this after prayers at a mosque in Istanbul on the occasion of the great Muslim holiday of Ramadan, which begins today.

"We will most likely have a conversation with Mr Putin this week," the Turkish leader told reporters.

"We want to bring together the leaders of the conflict in Istanbul or Ankara," he was quoted as saying by the private CNN-Turk.

"Turkey - Istanbul or Ankara - will be the decision point for the steps that will be taken in relation to Eastern Ukraine," Erdogan said.

"He (Putin) said he would do whatever he could," the president added. 

Regarding his visit to Saudi Arabia last week, Erdogan said the situation in relations between the two countries would change significantly. 

"We have discussed this issue with Mohammed bin Salman," the Turkish leader said, referring to the Saudi heir to the throne.

The President also noted that the number of visitors from Saudi Arabia to Turkey will increase.

"I believe that this tourist season will be very, very successful for Turkey," Erdogan said.
