The international military exercises Defender Europe 2022 and Swift Response 2022 with the participation of NATO and Partner countries began on May 1, according to the Polish Ministry of Defense.

A total of 18,000 servicemen from more than 20 countries will take part in the exercises, which will be held from May 1 to 26 in Poland and 8 other countries, including about 7,000 servicemen and 3,000 units of equipment in Poland.

Defender Europe 22 is an international joint and regular exercise organized by the US Armed Forces to increase preparedness and interoperability between US and NATO allies and partners.

The main issues that are planned to be worked out during the exercises will be:

  • working out various options for the transfer of coalition groups of troops (forces) in Europe;

  • checking the readiness and capabilities of the infrastructure of European states to receive and deploy reinforcements;

  • the use of coalition forces and their comprehensive support during the operation in Eastern Europe and the Baltics.

More than 12,000 servicemen, 80 tanks, 150 armored combat vehicles, 50 artillery units and 30 combat helicopters will be involved in the exercise.
