A fire broke out at the Sakhalin thermal power plant in Russia.

Sakhalin Oblast Governor Valery Limarenko said rescuers were battling a fire that spread to the roof of one of the turbines.

The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry's Sakhalin regional headquarters said 30 employees had left the burning building.

Sakhalinenergo said the fire was caused by the shutdown of one of the turbogenerators.
