The naming of the Bulgarian Cultural Club in Bitola after "Vancho Mikhailov" is nothing but a deliberate provocation, which at the same time sends a message.

This is what Dragi Gjorgiev, co-chair of the joint Macedonian-Bulgarian commission for historical and educational issues, told Deutsche Welle.

He thinks that even the last hopes for a dignified dialogue are fading.

"This is a historical figure which, due to its ideas about the non-existence of the Macedonian nation, has received extremely negative content from the Macedonians.

And when the name of such a person is imposed as the name of a cultural club in the territory of the Macedonian state, while that person has nothing to do with culture, then it can only be understood as an arrogant provocation, or even as an act that goes in favor of "contrary to the so-called 'friendship'", said Dragi Gjorgiev.

According to Gjorgiev, this action has reduced all efforts so far to find a common solution.

"Unfortunately, this act undermines and calls into question all other efforts to resolve misunderstandings between Macedonia and Bulgaria.

In this way, the increasingly few and quiet voices of reason from both sides are drowned out and the last hopes for a dignified dialogue are shattered.

"Even sadder is the fact that culture has been misused, one of the few bridges between the two peoples," Gjorgiev said.

This act further clarifies, shows the value system of a certain community.

When certain values cultivated through personalities or events are extracted from the past, then through them the current value and ideological position are determined, as well as the vision for the future of a community.

And when, despite the existence of many other possibilities, values belonging to the dark side of history are extracted, it adds further, then of course the message sent to the environment is also dark.
