Finland and Sweden reached an important stage on their way to NATO membership last night, with the Finnish government submitting a report to lawmakers - and Sweden has initiated a review of security policies.

Related to these initiatives of Sweden and Finland, former Russian leader Dmitry Medvedev said that there will be consequences if such a thing happens, reports Telegrafi.

Speaking on a television show, Medvedev stressed that Russia would also need to formally expand its list of opponents - announcing that "measures must be taken" in the region.

One of the points that had the most disagreements and that fueled the war in Ukraine between Russian and Ukrainian forces, was precisely Ukraine's ambitions to join NATO.
