The Minister of Defense Slavjanka Petrovska in a statement given to the Greek newspaper "Kathimerini" says that the Prespa Agreement, with which the country received the new name "Republic of Northern Macedonia", will not change even when the government changes.

"This agreement was marked as one of the most important achievements in the Balkans in recent decades and I am convinced that except for politics, all political parties, when they are able to represent the government and the state, will adhere to what has fallen. agreed and signed ", said Petrovska.

Speaking about Macedonia's membership in NATO, which was made possible by the Prespa Agreement, Petrovska considered it "a shield against the spread of the Ukrainian crisis in the Western Balkans."

"From today's point of view, NATO membership for the Balkan countries is probably the best way to guarantee that instability in Eastern Europe will not spread to our region," the minister said, adding that Macedonia's NATO membership is for her. the good of the Alliance as a whole, for the individual allies, but above all for the peace, security and stability of the country and the region ”.

Petrovska also said that all NATO allies agree that the Alliance should strengthen its presence on the eastern flank.

"A new security situation is needed on the European continent," she said, noting that the friendship strengthened with Greece since the signing of the Prespa Agreement opened "unlimited opportunities for co-operation, especially in the field of defense."

"We have transferred the responsibility for the security of the sky to an ally, but we have done it with a clear conscience, convinced of the capacity of the Greek armed forces and the readiness to defend the neighboring ally," Petrovska told Kathimerini.
