Employees of the Main Drug Control Department of the Interior Ministry and the Goychay District Police Department conducted a series of joint operations against those involved in the cultivation of drugs and their illicit trafficking.

As a result, six people were arrested and prosecuted, and more than 17 kilograms of drugs and psychotropic substances were seized.


Azad Jalilov, a former convict suspected of cultivating narcotic plants, was detained during a police operation in Bigir village of the region, the Sheki regional group of the Interior Ministry's Press Service told APA's local bureau.

During the inspection of his residence, 269 hemp plants grown in the backyard greenhouse, tomato seedlings, as well as more than 200 grams of dried marijuana were packed as material evidence.


As a result of another operation, Polad Garibov and Nijat Hajiyev, residents of the region who had previously been sentenced to 20 years in prison for drug trafficking and hooliganism, were detained.

During a personal search, a large amount of heroin was found in both detainees.


During another operation in Goychay, three more people, Nariman Rahimov, Gabil Piraliyev and Elvin Mammadov, who had previously been convicted of drug trafficking, were detained.

Heroin and methamphetamine, a psychotropic substance, were seized from them.

In his testimony, Rahimov said that he bought the drugs online for 200 manat from a foreign drug dealer he met on social media.


A criminal case has been launched on the facts, and each of the detainees has been remanded in custody.
