The Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu spoke about her visit to The Hague, where she met with some of the accused in the Special Court, but not with former President Hashim Thaçi and former Speaker Kadri Veseli, said that the meetings with two the latter did not occur as there was no will on their part.

"During our visit we met the International Commission for Missing Persons, we also met five of the persons being held in detention, Hysni Gucati, Rexhep Selimi, Pjeter Shala, Jakup Krasniqi and Nasim Haradinaj.

"I met with the President of the Court, Ekaterina Trendafilova, and with the Dutch ambassador for humanitarian organizations, as well as with the ombudsman", Haxhiu emphasized.

The Minister indicated that during these meetings he was informed in relation to the requests and concerns they may have.

"Importantly, they are in good health, they are staying strong and we have raised issues that are serious in other instances.

The main, international and applicable principle recognized in our constitution is a fair trial at a reasonable time and that some of them are being held for close to two years in detention and there is still no court hearing.

Of course, this is a concern, because it is not easy and it is not a fair standard if someone remains in detention while the court hearing has started ", said Haxhiu for RTK.

Haxhiu said that during the visit he also raised the issue of visas for family members, who unfortunately have to apply every month to obtain visas and deal with bureaucratic procedures.

"We have a will that this issue should be addressed as soon as possible so that at least the spouses, but also their children are provided with long-term or special visas, we are also making efforts to make it possible for parents, but I do not know if we will succeed.

I have also addressed other issues related to institutional visits ", said Haxhiu.

Meanwhile, regarding the impossibility of her visit to former President Thaçi and former Speaker Veseli, she said that there was a lack of will on their part for such a thing.

"We have no explanation.

We have made a request because I consider that as Minister of Justice I have an obligation to make a request to visit everyone.

I think an unwillingness on the other hand is unreasonable and I consider that in such circumstances I do not understand it as such.

But it is their will, you can not visit anyone in a correctional facility, or detention in this case, if there is no will from the other party.

We have shown our interest as institutions.

I think you can refuse to meet an individual, but when it comes to institutions it is different.

But we are ready whenever they need to wait for us, to be there.

It is up to them when they return to Kosovo to tell the reasons why they did not wait for us.

"I consider that it was not reasonable", said Haxhiu.

She reminded that Lëvizja Vetëvendosje was the one that opposed the establishment of the Special, as she had in mind that such a court tends to distort the truth about the Kosovo Liberation Army.
