Law enforcement officers boarded a vessel in the port of Palma de Mallorca, the capital of the Spanish autonomous region of the Balearic Islands.

A spokesman for the Spanish Civil Guard confirmed that its staff and FBI agents were searching the 78-meter yacht Tango.

It is under the flag of the Cook Islands and is valued at $ 120 million.

The yacht is among the gains associated with Viktor Vekselberg, a billionaire and close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He heads the Moscow-based conglomerate Renova Group.

All of Vekselberg's assets in the United States have been frozen, and American companies are banned from doing business with him.

Vekselberg has long had ties to the United States, had a green card in the past, and owned properties in New York and Connecticut.

The Ukrainian-born Russian businessman made his fortune by investing in the aluminum and oil industries in the post-Soviet period, the AP notes.

Vekselberg was also questioned as part of an investigation by Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller into Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election.
