The Pentagon has warned that while a "small number" of Russian forces have left Kiev "on Monday", Russia could still carry out massive atrocities on the country - including in the Ukrainian capital.

"We believe that this is a repositioning, not a real withdrawal, and we should all be prepared to see a major offensive against certain regions in Ukraine.

"This does not mean that the threat to Kiev is over," Pentagon spokesman John Kirby was quoted as saying by the Telegraph.

"No one should be fooled by the Kremlin's recent claims that it will reduce military strikes near Kiev or any reports that it will withdraw all forces," Kirby added.

The Pentagon has said it is more like a repositioning than a troop withdrawal - proving once again that Moscow is not living up to its promises.
