A Chinese passenger plane has crashed in southwest China.

According to the Civil Aviation Administration of China, a huge plume of smoke was seen rising from the hill on which the plane fell after the crash, many people are feared dead in the accident.

  • The plane that crashed was a six-year-old Boeing 737-800NG.

    It had 132 passengers and 9 crew members. 

  • China's state TV CCTV reported that the Boeing 737 plane crashed in a rural area near the city of Wuzhou in the Guangxi region and "a fire broke out in the middle of the mountains. Rescue teams were dispatched to the scene."

  • A villager told a local news site that the crashed plane broke into pieces and noticed that when the plane hit the hill, it caught fire and destroyed a nearby forest area.

  • The plane that crashed was not the new generation Boeing Max jet, the model involved in previous fatal accidents.

    In March 2019, after accidents in Indonesia and Ethiopia, the Max jet was grounded.

    This form of the aircraft has still not returned to commercial service in China.
