NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, who arrived in Turkey to attend a diplomatic forum in Antalya, told CNN-Turk that Turkey has a key role to play in ending the Ukraine-Russia war.

Everything on the topic:

The Russian invasion of Ukraine 2311

We must do everything we can to end this war.

I appreciate Turkey's initiatives.

President Putin must end this war and withdraw his troops completely from Ukraine, Stoltenberg stressed.

He warned that the war should not be transferred beyond the borders of Ukraine.

This war should not escalate into a NATO-Russia war, the NATO secretary general stressed, saying it would lead to even more casualties.

NATO planes will not enter Ukraine, Stoltenberg added.

He said he had spoken to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and was due to meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Stoltenberg pointed out that the Turkish side plays a major mediating role between Moscow and Kyiv.

We must provide support to Ukraine, Stoltenberg added.

Asked whether Turkey would impose sanctions on Russia, he said NATO expects all its allies to impose sanctions.

Stoltenberg added that he also presented this issue to Cavusoglu, BTA notes.
