Albanian Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku said today that the energy crisis did not start with the war in Ukraine, but has long been present in the country.

She added that the government has taken measures to better manage the Drini cascade, to cope with the increase in the price of imported energy.

In the joint press conference with the Prime Minister, Edi Rama on the impact of the war in Ukraine on energy and oil prices, Balluku stressed that, "in the first three months of this year we have bought energy at 500 euros per MWh, while the price energy from imports, risks to go up to 1,000 euros per MWh, from 51 euros paid a year ago.

"The government will continue to protect the family subscriber.

"Despite the fact that the cost of energy has increased almost ten times, the consumer continues to receive it at the same price", declared Balluku.

The Minister said that the government continues to protect the family subscriber and the small business band.

"The price of energy costs for consumers is 28.4 lekë, for March it will be 61 lekë, but in the meantime the price that will be given to subscribers is the previous one.

"The price will continue to remain the same despite the increase in cost," said Balluku.
