Major General Andrei Sukhovetsky, deputy commander of the 41st Army, was killed during the fighting in Ukraine.

His death was reported by Komsomolskaya Pravda correspondent Alexander Kotz, who covered the actions of Russian military forces in Ukraine.

The information is also confirmed by the All-Russian Organization of Veterans "Fighting Brotherhood" in front of Radio Liberty and Newsweek.

Sukhovetsky, 47, was appointed deputy commander of the 41st Army in the fall of 2021. Prior to that, he headed the 7th Assault Assault Division in Novorossiysk for three years.

Sukhovetsky graduated from the Ryazan Higher Airborne Command School and the Mikhail Frunze Military Academy, as well as the General Staff Military Academy.

He is the holder of two orders "For Courage", the Order "For Military Merit" and the Medal "For Courage", which is awarded for exceptional courage shown in battles in the performance of special tasks related to risk to life.

He is a veteran of the fighting in the North Caucasus, Abkhazia, and has participated in Russian operations in Syria.

His latest award is for his participation in the annexation of Crimea.

This is the first report of a high-ranking Russian officer killed since the start of the war in Ukraine.
